IRVINE, Calif. – Junior guard Safia Sheikh was named this week's PacWest Women's Basketball Player of the Week are Safia Sheikh (BYU-Hawaii) to two road victories in three games in games played Dec. 5-11.
Sheikh averaged 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assist per game, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 93.8 percent at the free throw line. She was also 13-for-26 from three-point range.
She scored 25 points, connecting on 7-of-12 three-pointers, and four assists and three steals in a win over Notre Dame de Namur.
She followed that with a career-high 32 points in a win over Dominican. She shot 10-19 from the field and 10-for-11 at the free throw line to match the second-highest scoring performance in the PacWest this season. Sheikh is third in the PacWest in scoring (18.8 ppg) and leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (47.1 percent).
Kamille Diaz (California Baptist) was named Defender of the Week and Rachel Bozlee (Azusa Pacific) and Destiny Castro (Chaminade) shared Freshman of the Week honors.

Kamille Diaz (California Baptist)

Diaz helped No. 10 CBU to two wins, averaging 15.5 points, 9.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game. She had 19 points, 10 assists and six steals against Dixie State. It was her second-consecutive game with six steals, the highest single-game mark in the conference this season. CBU held its opponents to 64.5 points per game, and forced 42 turnovers. Diaz leads the PacWest and is 54th in the nation in steals per game (2.62).
CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Rachel Bozlee (Azusa Pacific)
G – Fr. – Spokane, Wash./Northwest Christian
Bozlee scored 27 points in just 37 minutes of action off the bench in two games. She had nine points and four rebounds against Biola. She scored a career-high 18 points against Dixie State, making a team-high six of APU's program-record 19 three-pointers. Bozlee had scored 28 points in her previous nine games before last week.
CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Destiny Castro (Chaminade)
G – Fr. – Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS
Castro averaged 9.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in two conference games for Chaminade. She had seven points and a career-high 10 rebounds against Hawai'i Pacific. She had 11 points, nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block in Chaminade's first win of the season over Hawai'i Hilo.
