IRVINE, Calif. – Junior guard Safia Sheikh was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for games played Dec. 5-11.
Sheikh led BYU-Hawaii to two wins on its three-game Northern California road trip. She averaged 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assist per game. Sheikh was efficient in her scoring, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 93.8 percent at the free throw line. She was also 13-for-26 from three-point range.
She scored 25 points, connecting on 7-of-12 three-pointers, and four assists and three steals in a win over Notre Dame de Namur. She followed that with a career-high 32 points in a win over Dominican. She shot 10 for 19 from the field and 10 for 11 at the free throw line to match the second-highest scoring performance in the PacWest this season. Sheikh is third in the PacWest in scoring (18.8 ppg) and leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (47.1 percent).
Sheikh has now scored over 20 points in three straight games and has four such games on the season. BYU-Hawaii takes on No. 7/8 Alaska Anchorage Tuesday at 7 p.m. HST at the Cannon Activities Center.
