LAIE, Hawaii (Feb 24, 2014) – In her last game in Laie, senior Danna Lynn Hooper dropped 30 points and led the BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team to a 75-71 victory on senior night over Holy Names.
Hooper made 12 of 21 shots for her 30 points, leading all scorers. Hooper has 1,073 career points with one game on the road left to play.
Down eight points in the second half, the Seasiders (3-21, 3-16) rallied to take the lead in the final minutes. Hooper came up clutch scoring three buckets in a row, including a big 3-pointer to give BYU-Hawaii the lead 69-67 with 1:51 to go.
BYU-Hawaii hung on down the stretch and picked up a big win on senior night to send Hooper out with a bang.
With four minutes into the second half and the Seasiders down by eight to the Holy Names (10-15, 6-13) a jump shot by Marquessa Gilson put the Siders back on track. A total team effort brought the home team back with Talyn Bevell, Abby Barrett and Fieldsted all getting buckets amidst the run.
Fieldsted hit a jumper with four minutes remaining to bring BYU-Hawaii back within two points and Gilson added a freebie to set up Hooper's three-straight baskets with the Hawks still threatening
The Seasiders made 10 triples in the game, including four apiece from Hooper and Tatupu-Leopoldo.
BYU-Hawaii plays at Chaminade on Thursday at 5 p.m. to wrap up the regular season.
