BYU-Hawaii drops one 84-66 to HPU

LAIE, Hawaii (Feb 7. 2014)- The BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team battled it out on the court against Hawaii Pacific but fell short 84-66 on Friday night.

Danna Lynn Hooper totaled of 27 points for the Seasiders along with four rebounds. Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo added 17 points along with Talyn Bevell's 10 points for the Seasiders.

BYU-Hawaii also had its leading rebounder back, Whitney Fieldsted, and she produced eight rebounds and three assists. Marquessa Gilson snatched six rebounds of her own.

Right off the jump ball Hawaii Pacific opened up the game and took the lead, but the Seasiders continued to battle but fell behind early in the first half, down 18-12 at the 9:33 mark.

Hawaii Pacific pushed the gap to double digits and took a 45-26 lead into halftime.

Starting the second half the Seasiders gained momentum and tried to chip away at the lead and trailed 49-33 after the first five minutes of the second half.

BYU-Hawaii hit some good shots in the second half but could never really get within striking distance, falling in the end 84-66.

BYU-Hawaii will continue its season on the road against Dixie State on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
