Cal Baptist holds off BYU-Hawaii 77-70

LAIE, Hawaii (Feb 1, 2104)- A shorthanded BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team tested Cal Baptist with a late second half run but came up short 77-70 on Saturday night.

Late in the game, Danna Lynn Hooper hit a big three to tie the game up 66-66 with just 2:35 remaining.

From there the game went back and forth until the Lancers hit an open three with 00:53 left in the game. The make took the momentum and ultimately doomed the Seasiders.

Hooper finished the night going 5 of 12 with 19 points and Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo went 8 of 19 with 20 points. The Seasiders were without the usual services of leading rebounder Whitney Fieldsted, along with Makana Borden due to injuries.

BYU-Hawaii stayed in close with the Lancers all game long. Strong play and determination by the Seasiders sent the teams in at half with the Seasiders down by just three points, 31-28.

Down 47-34 with 13:45 remaining in the game, the home team found some great open looks for Hooper Tatupu-Leopoldo, to keep BYU-Hawaii in it.

The late game surge wasn't enough as the Seasiders fell 77-70 in the end.

BYU-Hawaii will face in-state rival Hawaii Pacific next Friday at 5pm.
