Seasiders rally not enough in 69-58 loss to Point Loma

LAIE, Hawaii (Jan. 10, 2014) – The BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team took a lead in the second half but were downed by Point Loma 69-58 on Saturday night at the Cannon Activities Center.

The Seasiders (0-11, 0-6) came back from down as many as 14 in the second half to take a one-point lead at 49-48 lead with 9:49 to play.  A 12-0 run brought BYU-Hawaii back into it, making it a battle to the end but Point Loma (7-6, 5-4) responded and closed out the Seasiders for the win.

Danna Lynn Hooper led the team with 17 points while Talyn Bevell added 11 points and two steals. Whitney Fieldsted and Makana Borden were big on the boards, grabbing 10 and eight, respectively.

Point Loma started out the game at a fast pace, controlling all sides of the floor as it jumped out to a 15-0 lead.

BYU-Hawaii wasn't going down without a fight, trimming the lead and heading into the half down 35-25.

The Sea Lions built the lead to 14 in the first minutes but the Seasiders steadily started to close the gap.

The 12-0 run from BYU-Hawaii put them up on top midway through but outscored the home team 21-9 in the final minutes.

BYU-Hawaii closes out their four-game homestand and takes on Chaminade Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. in the Cannon Activities Center.
