Three in double figures, solid first half not enough in loss to No. 2 Gannon

HONOLULU (Nov. 29, 2013) - Three players scored in double figures for the BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 2 Gannon University in an 80-49 loss at the conclusion of the Oahu Classic on Friday.

Marquessa Gilson scored 13 points and posted six rebounds, two assists and one steal to lead the Seasiders. Talyn Bevell added 12 points and Danna Lynn Hooper scored 11 for BYU-Hawaii.

The Seasiders (0-5) gave the Golden Knights (6-0) all they could handle in the first half, outshooting them 44.4 to 33.3 percent and drained 5 of 9 threes.

After going down early 12-6, BYU-Hawaii rallied to cut the lead to 12-11 behind a 3-pointer from Bevell and another two from Hooper with 14:09 to go in the first.

Even when Gannon went up by eight points at 28-20 with 5:44 until halftime, the Seasiders responded again with a flurry of makes from Gilson, Bevell and Hooper to make it a one-point game again with the Golden Knights clinging to a 32-21 lead with 1:45 until the break.

The Seasiders trailed the No. 2 team just 36-31 at halftime.

The second half was a different story however, and the Golden Knights opened up with a big run to stretch their lead to 58-38 over the first 10 minutes of the second half.

BYU-Hawaii didn't have enough for a comeback in the second and fell to Gannon 80-49.

Up next, the Seasiders open up conference play on the road at Hilo on Dec. 7.
