Seasiders season comes to an end

AZUSA, Calif. (March, 7, 2013) The Brigham Young University Hawaii women's basketball team lost to Academy of Art 77-50 tonight in the first game of the Pacific West Conference post-season tournament. 

The loss ends the season for the Seasiders, who finish the year 6-19 for the season.

BYU-Hawaii fell behind early in the contest but rallied to within two points at 22-20 with 7:33 to play in the first half.  But Academy of Art closed the period with a 15-2 run to lead 37-22 at the intermission and the Seasiders never got the deficit to single digits in the second half.

Academy of Art out-rebounded the Seasiders 48-29 for the game and forced the Seasiders into 28 turnovers.

Junior Danna Lynn Hooper came off the bench to score 21 points with four three-pointers to lead BYU-Hawaii.  Senior Kristen Hartley tallied eight points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Seasiders.  Senior Shayla Washington, the team's leading scorer and rebounder this season, was held to just four points and four rebounds before leaving the game early in the second half after turning her ankle.

Ariel Dale led four players in double figures for Academy of Art, now 21-8 for the season.  The Urban Knights advance to tomorrow's second round and will play second-seeded Grand Canyon for a spot in Saturday's final.
