Seasiders fall in doubleheader to Vikings (Game one)

LAIE, Hawaii – BYU-Hawaii softball kept things close, but fell 4-2 and 7-3 in a doubleheader Tuesday against Western Washington at the BYU-Hawaii Softball Field.

Alanna Anderson was 4 for 5 from the plate with two runs and three stolen bases to lead the Seasiders (0-2). Lizabelle Talataina hit .333 on the day with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

Emily Benson led the Vikings (5-1) with two home runs and four RBI on 3 for 7 hitting. Shearyna Labasan (2-0) allowed one earned run over seven innings to win the first game, while Anna Kasner (2-0) pitched eight innings with 13 strike outs to win the second.

Game One

  • Sarah Captain opened the first game with a double to left field and advanced to second on Anderson's sacrifice bunt. Talataina followed with a walk to put runners on the corners. The Vikings tried to catch Talataina stealing at second, but a wild throw made its way to the center field fence to score both runners.
  • Western Washington tied the game at two in the fourth on a similar play as Carlie Richards singled up the middle and a fielding error allowed runners to score from first and second.
  • Benson then broke the tie with a solo shot to deep center field to lead off the sixth and Mackenzie Hughes added an insurance run with a home run of her own to left-center field.
