The Seasiders (3-13, 3-11) took game two with some timely hitting some big pitching from Hawkins.
Alexa Barrett was 2 for 2 with two RBI, including a double. Hawkins went 7.0 innings and struck out seven, allowing two runs.
Kalynn Latu was 2 for 3 with RBI as well.
After the Penguins (10-7, 4-2) took a 1-0 lead, BYU-Hawaii responded in the bottom of the third with three runs. Latu laid down a bunt that the third basemen threw over the first basemen's head, allowing Whitney Gustafson to score from second.
Later on, Barrett drove in two with a single to center to take a 3-1 lead.
Latu singled to left in the fourth to score Madeline Johnson to make it 4-1.
The Penguins threatened in the sixth with an RBI double to cut into the lead, but Hawkins got a liner to short and Barrett made the play to end the inning.
Despite a Dominican single in the seventh, Hawkins struck out the side to seal the 4-2 win.
Game two had a four-run top of the second that did the Seasiders in. An error at third base led to one run, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a single resulted in a 5-0 lead for Dominican after the top of the second.
BYU-Hawaii got two in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth but with seven runs on the board for the Penguins, the comeback was stopped in a 7-3 loss.
The Seasiders take a break from PacWest play on Thursday when they host Upper Iowa at 1 and 3 p.m. in Laie.
