LAIE, Hawaii – No. 27 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis dropped its final regular season match 8-1 Saturday against No. 6 Hawaii Pacific at the BYU-Hawaii Tennis Courts.
No. 9 Filip Dolezel and Jakub Hadrava gave Hawaii Pacific (12-4) the first point of the day with an 8-3 victory over the Seasiders' (16-6) Sterling Galli and Chia-Hua Lu. The Sharks' Jack Lyttle and Torben Otto added an 8-4 victory on court two, while Filip Soban and Juan Erro held off Ibrahim Karmadzha and Ian Galli of BYU-Hawaii for a 9-8 (3) win for the doubles sweep.
Soban opened singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Seasiders' Tsu-Ping Kuang and No. 7 Dolezel took the first court 6-2, 6-4 for HPU. No. 10 Torben Otto gathered momentum with a narrow 6-4 victory in the first set and defeated Guillermo Ucelay Pueyo 6-1 in the second set for the 6-0 team lead.
Hadrava defeated Karmadzha 6-3, 6-3 in No. 3 singles, while the last two courts went to three sets. Andres outlasted Guillin 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (4) on the fifth court, while Lu grabbed the only team point for the Seasiders with a hard fought 6-7 (10), 6-2, 1-0 (8) win on the fourth court.
BYU-Hawaii will take the court next at the PacWest Men's Tennis Championships April 19 at the Surprise Tennis Complex in Surprise, Arizona.
