LAIE, Hawaii – No. 26 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis claimed its second victory over Hawaii Hilo in as many days, winning 5-4 Tuesday at the BYU-Hawaii Tennis Courts.
Sterling Galli and Chia-Hua Lu opened the match with a strong 8-0 victory for the Seasiders (9-3). Ibrahim Karmadzha and Ian Galli rebounded from a tough loss Monday with a 8-3 victory Tuesday over Stefan Coney and Daniel Tada of Hawaii Hilo (4-6). No. 2 doubles went into tiebreakers and the Vulcans' Alex Fillat Perez and Bruno Figlia grabbed the 9-8 (3) victory.
Lu won a quick 6-1, 6-0 match over Coney to open singles and Simon Guillin was right behind with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Figlia to give BYU-Hawaii the 4-1 match lead. Vaclav Slezak took a 6-0, 6-3 match for the Vulcans on court one to set up a tight finish after the other three courts split the first two sets.
Karmadzha proved to be the difference holding off Gregory Zukeran for a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory on court three. The Seasiders retired on the other two courts with the match in hand.
BYU-Hawaii will take on Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m. HST Wednesday at the BYU-Hawaii tennis courts. Live scoring will be available online.
