AZUSA, Calif. – No. 26 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis fell in 5-1 Saturday in its final match in Southern California against No. 13 Azusa Pacifiic at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.
The Cougars (8-1) claimed 8-4 victories on all three doubles courts to take a strong lead heading into singles and No. 30 Christian Schmid topped Sterling Galli 6-2, 6-2 to move within a point of clinching the match. Chia-Hua Lu claimed the lone point of the day for the Seasiders (6-3), defeating Marnix Pluim 6-4, 6-3.
Guillermo Ucelay Pueyo topped No. 1 Oliver Frank 6-3 in the first set, but Frank recovered to win the next two 6-3, 6-3 and take the match for APU.
BYU-Hawaii will next face No. 30 Holy Names in Laie, Hawaii, Saturday at 9 a.m. HST.
