Surprise, Ariz. - No. 23 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis fell 5-0 to No. 1 Hawaii Pacific University Friday afternoon at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center.
Hawaii Pacific (16-3) duo of Torben Otto and Jakub Hadrava defeated BYU-Hawaii's (11-5) Ibrahim Karmadzha and Colton Pate 8-2. Martinez Vich and Filip Dolezel took No. 2 doubles 8-3 over Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee. No. 1-ranked Thibaud Berland and Alexander Meyer finished off the Sharks sweep of doubles moments later with an 8-3 victory over Simon Guillin and Guillermo Ucelay Pueyo.
No. 27 Meyer put Hawaii Pacific a point from victory after defeating Volodymyr Kashytski 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. The Seasiders held strong with Karmadzha and Lee each splitting the first two sets looking to get a point for their team. It wasn't meant to be as Hawaii Pacific's Clemens Graute defeated Seasider Peng Dai 6-2, 6-2 on the sixth court to finish the match.
BYU-Hawaii will play for third place against Concordia University Irvine at 1:30 p.m. MST on Saturday. Live stats will be available online.
