LAIE, Hawaii - No. 18 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis swept Hawaii Hilo in a 9-0 match on Monday afternoon at the BYU-Hawaii tennis courts.
No. 6 Martin Chojnacki and Yevhen Zakharov started the Seasiders (9-3) off on the right foot with an 8-4 victory over their Hilo challengers in No. 1 doubles. Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee conquered the Vulcans 8-1 on court two, while Ibrahim Karmadzhe and Colton Pate also finished with an 8-1 victory on the final doubles court.
No. 43 Chojnacki took a 7-6(4), 7-5 victory against Kainoa Rosa to start the Seasiders off in singles. Lee overcame Kallen Mizugchi in a 6-2, 6-0 match. Karmadzhe had a 6-2, 6-4 win versus Stefan Coney.
Dai's 6-2, 6-2 win over Daniel Tada extended BYU-Hawaii's lead over the Vulcans. Taylor De Hoyas defeated Nicolas Franco 7-5, 6-4. A 6-0, 6-3 victory by Jake Stevenson against Ryan Torio closed out singles play.
The Seasiders will face Cleveland State on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the BYU-Hawaii tennis courts.
