LAIE, Hawaii – No. 18 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis swept Hawaii Hilo 9-0 on Friday at the BYU-Hawaii tennis courts.
The No. 6 duo of Martin Chojnacki and Yevhen Zakharov pulled out a tight 8-5 victory over the Vulcan pairing of Kallen Mizuguchi and Kainoa Rosa. Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee shut-out their counterparts from Hilo 8-0 on the second doubles court, while Colton Pate and Ibrahim Karmadzhe came through with a 9-7 win for BYU-Hawaii on the third court.
In singles, No. 43 Chojnacki dispatched Rosa 6-1, 6-4 on the first court. Karmadzhe defeated the Vulcan's Mizuguchi 6-3, 6-2. Lee and Grant Zukeran quickly dispatched of their Hilo competitors with 6-0, 6-1 each on the third and sixth courts.
Dai won a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Daniel Tada on the fourth court. Taylor De Hoyas came through on the end of a tight battle with Hilo's Nicolas Franco 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (7).
The Seasiders will stay home to take on the Vulcans in one more match on Monday at 9 a.m. HST.
