Seasiders unable to pull off upset

COSTA MESA, Calif. - No. 19 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis lost an 8-1 match to No. 3 Vanguard University on Tuesday afternoon.

BYU-Hawaii's No. 40 Yevhen Zakharov fell 6-2, 6-2 to Fabio Silva, while No. 43 Martin Chojnacki lost a 6-2, 6-3 match to Vanguard's No. 3 Stefan Kilchhofer. Ibrahim Karmadzhe was defeated by No. 12 Roger Muri in a 6-2, 6-0 competition.

The only Seasider victory of the day was a 6-1, 6-2 win by Wei-Feng Lee over Thomas Gely. Peng Dai surrendered a 6-2, 6-2 match to No. 49 Daymon Johnson. To finish out singles play, Taylor De Hoyas lost a 6-4, 7-5 struggle to Filip Burnac.

The Lions defeated No. 6 Chojnacki and Zakharov 8-3 on the first doubles court. Dai and Lee were outlasted by their Vanguard challengers in an 8-5 match. Karmadzhe and Colton Pate lost in a close 8-6 match.

BYU-Hawaii will head to Azusa Pacific to play on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. PST.
