KONA, Hawaii – No. 19 BYU-Hawaii men's basketball rebounded in a 9-0 sweep of University of Hawaii at Hilo on Valentine's Day at the Holua Tennis Center.
The Seasiders' Yevhen Zakharov, No. 40 nationally in singles, defeated Kallen Mizuguchi 6-3, 6-0 in the first singles competition. No. 43 Martin Chojnacki defeated Hilo's Kainoa Rosa 6-3, 6-3 on the second court.
BYU-Hawaii's Ibrahim Karmadzhe quickly defeated Daniel Tada 6-1, 6-0 on the third court, while Wei-Fang Lee recorded the only "double-bagel" in singles defeating the Vulcan's Stefan Coney. The Seasiders' Peng Dai added a 6-3, 6-4 victory and teammate Taylor De Hoyas added a 6-2, 6-4 win in the finals singles match of the day.
The No. 6 pairing of Chojnacki and Zakharov rebounded from their first loss of the season with an 8-6 win over Hilo's duo of Mizuguchi and Rosa. The pairings of Dai and Lee, and Karmadzhe and Pate also recorded 8-6 victories in doubles.
BYU-Hawaii will have a week of rest before travelling to Biola for a match on Saturday at 12 p.m. PST.
