HOLUA, Hawaii – No. 19 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis dropped a very tight match 5-4 to No. 18 San Diego at Holua Tennis Center on Friday.
The Seasiders' No. 40 Yevhen Zakharov took home a 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision over Axel Bouillin in the first singles. No. 43 Martin Chojnaki recorded the only other victory in singles for the Seasiders, defeating UC San Diego's Eric Tseng 6-3, 6-4.
Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee took home an 8-6 doubles victory over the Tritons' Alexandre Miaule and Horea Porutiu. BYU-Hawaii's duo of Colton Pate and Ibrahim Kamadzha also scored a tight 9-7 victory over Kona Luu and Mark Meyer.
No. 6 pairing of Chojnaki and Zakharov were locked in another tight doubles battle, but Boullin and Rajeev Herekar won the tiebreaker 9-8 (5).
The Seasiders wrap up tournament play against host Hilo at 10 a.m. HST at the Holua Tennis Center.
