Zakharov, Chojnacki earn doubles win over top duo in 7-2 loss

LAIE, Hawaii (April 7, 2014) - The No. 22 BYU-Hawaii men's team came up short against No. 3 Hawaii Pacific on Monday despite a doubles win over a top-ranked opponent.

The Seasiders (11-5) battled but dropped two out of three doubles points early on and stayed close in each of the singles matches but managed to come away with just one more point in singles.

The two big highlights for BYU-Hawaii featured the No. 14 ranked partners of Yevhen Zakharov and Martin Chojnacki beating the top-ranked No. 1 pairing of HPU's Petr Michnev and Thibaud Berland in an 8-3 victory, handing the Sea Warrior duo their first loss of the year.

No. 23 Chojnacki was the bright spot in second singles, taking his opponent Berland into the evening with a thriller. Chojnacki outlasted Berland and came away with a 7-6 (1), 5-7, 1-0 (7) victory to snag the point for BYU-Hawaii.
