No. 18 Seasiders sweep Hope International

LA MIRADA, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2014) - The No. 18 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis team downed Hope International University 9-0 on Saturday in California.

BYU-Hawaii swept its way through every matchup of the day in doubles and singles.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Yevhen Zakharov and Martin Chojnacki had an 8-3 win while Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee dominated 8-0 in the No. 2 position.

Ibrahim Karmadzhe and Ian Galli defeated John Owens and Mike Maiolo of HIU 8-4 to cap the sweet with a No. 3 doubles win.

The singles competition went smooth for the Seasiders as well with Zakharov and Chojnacki notching wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 position. Zakharov won 6-2, 6-1 and Chojnacki in a closer 6-4, 7-5 victory.

Lee won No. 3 6-2, 6-0 and Karmadzhe took the No. 4 spot with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-0 edge. Dai and Taylor De Hoyas won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-1. triumphs.

BYU-Hawaii will visit Point Loma on Tuesday at the start of a four-match week.
