Division I Sacramento State downs BYU-Hawaii

LAIE, Hawaii (Jan. 18, 2014) - The No. 18 BYU-Hawaii men's tennis team dropped its first match of 2014 5-2 to Division I Sacramento State on Saturday.

The Seasiders got their two points behind singles wins from No. 25 ranked Martin Chojnacki over Niranjam Ran 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot and Wei-Feng Lee defeated Oliver Andersen 6-1, 6-2 in the third position.

Sacramento State took the other singles matches. Roy Brandys beat BYU-Hawaii's Yevhen Zakharov 7-6 (4), 6-3 from the first position and Tom Miller edged Peng Dai 7-5 (5), 2-6, 1-0 at No. 4.

In the fifth spot, Taylor de Hoyas fell to Ayman Abdulwahab 6-0, 6-3. Joaquin Marquez defeated Bridger Myers 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

In doubles play the Seasiders didn't fair much better.

The team of Brandys and Abdulwahab won at No. 2 by a 7-5 score over Dai and Lee while and Marquez and Miller beat de Hoyas a Myers at No. 3 by a 6-2 score.

Chojnacki and Zakharov's doubles match went unfinished against Ram and Andersen.

The Seasiders travel to Hilo on Feb. 13 to take on the Vulcans.
