BELMONT, Calif. – BYU-Hawaii men's soccer fell late to Notre Dame de Namur 3-2 late on Thursday at Koret Field.
Edgar Mesa Perez and Jacob McRae were able to get the two goals for the Seasiders (2-2-1, 1-1-0 PacWest), while Bastian Beuchler recorded an assist.
As a team, the Seasiders were able to hold Notre Dame de Namur (3-3, 1-0 PacWest) to twelve shots six on goal, while taking 12 shots ten on goal. Esteban Berumen recorded two of the three Argonauts goals.
Trailing in the 85th minute, Notre Dame de Namur was able to get a cross from the right side of the pitch, Wittman was able to get his hands on it, but the ball dropped and a ready Berumen was able to finish making it a 2-2 tie. Moments later a corner awarded to the Argonauts found Giovanni Rodriguez who tapped it back to Graham and Graham put it into the net for to finish the game 3-2 in favor of Notre Dame de Namur.
Notre Dame de Namur showed their technical ability when a long ball thrown in from Naia Graham found Glenn Gomez who flicked it to the back post and Berumen was able to head the ball into the net to give the Argonauts the 1-0 advantage in the tenth minute.
The Argonauts looked to increase their early lead with another shot by Berumen minutes later, but a save by Dwayne Wittman kept the score the same.
Late in the first half, a kick by Bastian Beuchler found Edgar Mesa Perez who came from the back line to head the ball past the keeper and tie the game 1-1 before the half.
The second half only saw one shot from the Seasiders before McRae was fouled in the box and was able to utilize the penalty kick to give BYU-Hawaii the 2-1 advantage.
