LAIE, Hawaii – Jake McRae started fast to lead BYU-Hawaii men's soccer to a 4-0 victory over Holy Names University on Saturday afternoon at the BYU-Hawaii Soccer Field.
McRae finished with two goals for the Seasiders (5-7, 3-4 PacWest). McRae's nine goals on the season tied three other former BYU-Hawaii players for the single-season record, most recently the nine scored by Jace Green last season.
McRae scored the first goal of the game three minutes in after Brody Berry slotted him behind the defense to beat the keeper 1-on-1. Less than two minutes later, McRae added a second goal off another assist from Berry, this time a chip inside the 18-yard box.
Holy Names (2-8-1, 1-3-1 PacWest) tried to cut into the lead with shots by Tomas Horak, Domonic Calderon, and Andres Horcasitas, but Jaden Epplette (4-5) made the saves to keep his sheet clean.
Matt Roberts raced down the left flank in the 35th minute and his cross found the head of Mason Reid to push the lead to 3-0 at the half.
Mark Stanley replaced Epplette in the second half, and made two saves in the first five minutes for BYU-Hawaii. Stanley remained strong in the net adding three more saves in the game.
In the 80th minute, fancy footwork by Besser Davila beat several Holy Names' defenders and the keeper for his second on the season and the last goal of the game.
The Seasiders will take on Domincan University Thursday afternoon at home at 3 p.m. HST. Live stats will be available online.
