RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Jacob McRae provided the offense and Jaden Epplette protected his net to lead BYU-Hawaii men's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
BYU-Hawaii's (4-6, 2-3 PacWest) backline held strong limiting Cal Baptist (4-6-1, 3-3 PacWest) to only two shots on goal. McRae led the team with four shots and scored the only goal of the game.
McRae put the Seasiders on the board in the 23rd minute with the first goal of the game after dribbling through the Lancer defense and scoring from just inside the 18-yard box. BYU-Hawaii held strong the remainder of the match.
The Seasiders' back four were called into action early in the game blocking a header shot and diffusing a potentially threatening corner kick within the first five minutes of the game.
Seasiders retaliated with a shot on goal from Pawel Dregan, but it was saved by the Lancer's keeper, Noah Oyler.
Cal Baptist's best opportunities came in the 14th and 19th minute with shots on goal, but Jaden Epplette was able to come up with the saves needed for BYU-Hawaii.
The Lancers came out strong in the second half winning two corners, but they were unable to capitalize due to the strong defensive presence displayed by BYU-Hawaii.
Despite a flurry of shots from Cal Baptist throughout the second half none of the shots found the frame for either team.
BYU-Hawaii faces Hawaii Hilo on Thursday at 3:00 pm HST at UHH Soccer Field. Live stats will be available online.
