Seasiders second half surge not enough

LAIE, Hawaii - BYU Hawaii men's soccer fell short in a 2-1 loss to Academy of Art on Monday afternoon at BYU-Hawaii Soccer Field.

The Seasiders (2-3, 0-1 PacWest) were able to put nine shots on goal, Jake McRae converted one on a penalty kick to give the Seasiders their only goal. The Urban Knights (3-2-1, 1-1 PacWest) also added nine shots on goal two of which made it through the net giving the Urban Knights the victory.

Both teams were in a defensive battle until late in the first half when Alex Walsh caught the Seasider defense out of position scoring a goal in the 40th minute. The Urban Knights put the pressure on in the first half as they were able to put five shots on goal, while the Seasiders were limited to one total shot.

The Seasiders came out aggressive in the second half putting eight shots on goal in the second half. McRae led the Seasider attack pushing the ball in the 59th minute into Urban Knight territory where he was taken down in the box to earn a penalty kick. McRae capitalized on the penalty kick to the bottom right corner to tie the game.

Shortly after McRae's goal the Urban Knights responded as Kristof Urbanyi took a pass from Jon Johannesson inside the box where he made a turn on the ball to put it inside the back post and give the Urban Knights the 2-1 lead.

To end the match the Urban Knights were able to control the ball as only one shot was taken by the Seasiders in the final 10 minutes. Besser Davila took the last shot for the Seasiders in the 85th minute, but the ball sailed high and the Urban Knights were able to hold on for the victory.
