Pineda saves eight, but Seasiders fall to No. 5 Chico State

ARCATA, Calif. – Chris Pineda came up big with eight saves, but BYU-Hawaii men's soccer dropped a 1-0 contest to No. 5 Chico State Thursday morning.

The Seasiders' (0-3-0) defense had a great second period to allow the offense opportunities to equalize, but goals have been hard to come by in the early season. Jace Green led the team with three shots on goal for the second consecutive game.

Chico State (4-0-1) applied early pressure getting three shots on goal including Michael Janjigian's goal on a corner kick from Justin Saul in the 17th minute. BYU-Hawaii kept things equal for the rest of the game with each team totaling six shots on goal.

The Seasiders looked to equalize early in the second half getting shots on goal in the 53rd, 56th, and 61st minute. The shots from Chad Nahoolewa and Green were saved by the Wildcat's Luke Dennison to preserve the shutout.

BYU-Hawaii will have a day of rest before playing at Humboldt State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PDT. The game can be followed online via stats, video and audio.
