Tempers flare in heated contest between HPU and BYU-Hawaii

LAIE, Hawaii (Sept. 1, 2014) – Senior Romy Lakip scored for BYU-Hawaii men's soccer team, but the Seasiders dropped a physical battle 4-1 to Hawaii Pacific University on Monday afternoon.

After the first period was ruled by the defense, HPU opened the second with a goal in the 49th minute when Christopher Campbell put it in the top of the net on a rebound.

BYU-Hawaii responded when senior Chad Nahoolewa delivered a perfect ball on a set piece to Lakip who chested it down and put it in off the post to knot the game up at a goal a each.

From there tempers flared resulting a scrum at midfield in the 52nd minute and red cards being given to the Seasider's Colby Bauer and the Sharks Christopher Campbell. Five more cards would be handed out through the end of the game.

The Sharks seized control of the game scoring three goals in a ten minute span beginning in the 70th minute. The last goal came from the spot after Nahoolewa became the second Seasider ejected after his second yellow of the day for a takedown in the box.

BYU-Hawaii returns to action on Sept. 13 against Chaminade at 12:30 p.m. on the soccer field at BYU-Hawaii.
