PHOENIX – BYU-Hawaii rookie midfielder/forward Jonathan Larsen has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Freshman of the Week and goalkeeper Chris Pineda earned Soccer Defender of the Week.
The conference announced the honor on Monday, Oct. 21, for matches contested Oct. 14-20.
The Freshman of the Week honor is awarded each week to a freshman or red-shirt freshman for his overall outstanding play.
In his first career game, Larsen recorded two goals and four points to lead the Seasiders to a 2-0 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on Oct. 17.
He subbed into the contest in the second half against the Argos and proceeded to score two goals to spark the Seasiders to a 2-1 overtime win.
He put BYU-Hawaii ahead 1-0 at 56:43 and then volleyed the game-winner over the head of the NDNU goalkeeper 1:40 into overtime to give the Seasiders the victory.
The Defender of the Week honor is awarded each week to a back or goalkeeper for his outstanding defensive play.
Pineda posted a 2-0-0 week with a 0.50 goals against average and an .857 save percentage in 181:40 of action. He halted 6 of 7 shots on net during the stretch.
Pineda led the Seasiders to a 2-1 overtime win vs. Notre Dame de Namur on Oct. 17 and blanked Fresno Pacific 3-0 on Oct. 19.
