Bauer sets tone with early goal to lead BYU-Hawaii over Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah (Oct. 3, 2013) The BYU-Hawaii men's soccer team grabbed its first Pacific West Conference victory of the season against Dixie State 2-1 on Thursday night.

Colby Bauer got BYU-Hawaii (3-3-2, 1-2-1) off to the races with an early goal in the first five minutes of play off of a corner kick from Mike Moreno. Bauer, from Scottsdale, Ariz., just took the one shot on the night but played all 90 minutes at the midfield position and was a big part of the Seasider victory.

"This has been a brutal road trip but I am proud of the way the boys battled today," head coach Mark Davis said. "It feels good to get a win. Today we did everything right."

BYU-Hawaii had 14 shot attempts while Dixie State (2-5-2, 1-4-1) had 11 shot attempts. In addition to Bauer's goal, Cam Neeley came up big off the bench with a goal near the end of the first half to put the Seasiders up 2-0 into the break.

Dixie State knocked in a goal late in the second half off of a free kick to put Dixie State on the scoreboard. BYU-Hawaii managed to control its lead and finish the game with a 2-1 victory.

The Seasiders now head back to the island where they will face Dominican University in Laie on Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. HT.
