NORMAN, Okla. – BYU-Hawaii's Nicolas Herrera was named a semifinalist for the 2017 Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol as announced Friday.

Herrera led the Seasiders to their first ever PacWest Men's Golf Championship this week after posting a 14 under in the 54-hole tournament. He is currently averaging a 70 in his 21 rounds played this season, tied for 10th among all collegiate golfers. His lowest round of 62 is tied for the sixth lowest in collegiate golf this season.

Herrera has totaled six eagles and 95 birdies this season, leading BYU-Hawaii five first place finishes on the season, including the final four tournaments of the season. The Seasiders enter regional play as the top-ranked team in the west region and having earned their highest national ranking of No. 11 from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Division II finalists for the award will be named May 18. Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced June 1 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club. In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 20-23, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Ala. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 3 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus first learned the game of golf as a young boy.
