LIVERMORE, Calif. – Nicolas Herrera led BYU-Hawaii to a third place finish after the first day of the NDNU Argonaut Invitational Monday at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Seasiders were in fourth after the first round, but a strong second round moved them two strokes ahead of Saint Martin's at 14 over par. Dixie State finished in first at 2 over and Cal Baptist was in second at 3 over.
Herrera finished the first 18 holes at third on the individual board with a 2-under 70, two strokes behind Cal Baptist's Greg Gonzalez. He tied Dixie State's Dane Nelson for second with a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Jacob Godfrey rebounded with an even par in the second 18 holes after finishing 3-over 75 in the firfst round and ended tied for 10th after the first day. Alex Stulce fell just outside the top-10 in the first round at 11th at 1 over par. He finished the day in 18th at 5 over.
