DENVER – No. 12 BYU-Hawaii men's golf improved on its performance yesterday with a 3-over 291 after the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.
The Seasiders are now 10-over for the tournament and are tied for 12th. Saint Leo maintained the top spot and now sits at 25 under for the tournament. Cal Baptist sits on the cut line with a 3 over with 18 holes to go.
Nicolas Herrera and Federico Clausen continued to lead BYU-Hawaii in the post season, each finishing at even par on the day after strong play on the back nine. Herrera began the back nine with birdies on 2 of the first three holes and with only one bogey at 17. Clausen was 2 under on the back nine with three birdies and one bogey, finishing with four straight pars. Herrera and Clausen are tied for 36th on the individual leader board.
After a slow start, Brent Grant found his groove with a birdie on the eighth hole. Like his teammates he enjoyed plenty of success on the back nine with two more birdies on 12 and 13 with his only blemish a bogey on his final hole of the day to finish 2 over.
Dalton Stanger bounced back from a rough start to the tournament with a 1-over 73. Stanger was very consistent with 13 pars and two birdies on the day. Inoka Kahawaii rounded out the team with an 8 over par.
BYU-Hawaii will make one last push for the medal round Thursday with tee-times beginning at 8:30 a.m. MDT. Live stats will be available online.
