Seasiders within striking distance after first day

DENVER -- No. 12 BYU-Hawaii men's golf finished the first round of the NCAA Division II National Championships in 11th place at seven over par.

The Seasiders ended with a total score of 295. St. Leo leads the pack at 10 under par with Chico State in second at 6 under. BYU-Hawaii is currently four strokes behind Lynn University for the eighth and final spot for the medal rounds to be held Friday and Saturday.

Brent Grant had the most consistent day for the Seasiders with 15 pars on his way to 1-over 73. Nicolas Herrera finished strong with a birdie on the ninth hole to close his first day at 1 over par. Federico Clausen also finished strong with two pars and a birdie on the eighth hole. Grant, Herrera, and Clausen are all tied for 37th on the individual leader board.

Inoka Kahawaii shot four over par while Dalton Stanger went 13 over par for the day.

BYU-Hawaii will take to the course again Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. MDT.
