Seasiders close strong on day two

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – Nicolas Herrera led No. 16 BYU-Hawaii men's golf to a third place finish after the second round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship South Central and West Regional at the New Mexico State University Course.

The Seasiders were tied for third with Cal State Monterey Bay after shooting 10 over par to put them at 13 over for the tournament. No. 1 Chico State was in second place at 5 over after finishing with a tournament low of 3-under 281 on the day. No. 31 Oklahoma Christian remained atop the standings at 4 over.

Herrera finished with a 1-over-par 72 to end up tied for seventh along with teammate Inoka Kahawaii who shot a 73 on the day. Brent Grant also shot a 73 and ended tied for 19th.

Herrera birdied on the eighth hole and finished strong with three more birdies on the back nine. Kahawaii and Grant added three birdies each.

Dalton Stanger finished at 5 over for BYU-Hawaii, while Federico Clausen was 7 over.
