LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – Inoka Kahawaii led No. 16 BYU-Hawaii men's golf to a second place finish Monday after the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship South Central and West Regional at the New Mexico State University Course.

The Seasiders were 3 over par on the day, one stroke behind leader and No. 31-ranked Oklahoma Christian. St. Mary's (TX) was third at 6 over.

Kahawaii was strong throughout beginning the day with a birdy on the 10th hole. He added five more birdies and eagled at four on his way to a 2-under 69. He finished tied second one stroke behind Dallas Baptist's Josh Aguilar.

Nicolas Herrera was one stroke behind Kahawaii at 1 under. Herrera followed an even par on the back nine with two birdies on the front nine. No. 17 Brent Grant finished even par to tie for eighth on the day to continue his strong play.

Dalton Stanger added a 6-over 77 for BYU-Hawaii, while teammate Federico Clausen was 8 over.

The Seasiders will continue on to the second round of 18 holes Tuesday.
