WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Inoka Kahawaii tied for first place after the first round of the First Annual Hawaii Challenge to keep BYU-Hawaii men's golf atop the leader board as well with Hawaii-Hilo.
The Seasiders and the Vulcans both finished 13 over par for the day. Hawaii Pacific University totaled 27-over 315, while Chaminade finished with a 30-over 318.
Kahawaii was 1 over through the first 18 holes. Ric Yamamoto of Hilo tied Kahawaii with a 1-over 73 of his own.
Federico Clausen tied for fourth finishing with a 3-over 75 for BYU-Hawaii. Seasiders Dalton Stanger, Nicolas Herrera, and Brent Grant all tied for eighth one stroke behind Clausen at 4 over par. Alex Stulce tied for 11th (+5) and Jacob Godfrey tied for 19th (+12) to round out participants from BYU-Hawaii.
BYU-Hawaii will look to finish strong Saturday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
