Seasiders place eighth after first day

LIVERMORE, Calif. – BYU-Hawaii men's golf team finished in eighth place after the first day of the East/West Bay Area Invite at the Wente Golf Course on Monday.

After the first round the Seasiders were in a three-way tie for sixth with Holy Names and Academy of Art, with an overall team score of 26-over-par 314. Western Washington was in first place with a score of 295.

The Seasiders fell to eighth place overall after shooting 30 over in the second round. Their overall score as a team was 56 over par. BYU-Hawaii placed four strokes behind Academy of Art's 628. Western Washington continued to lead the pack with a 310 in the second round to leave them with a total of 30 over at the end of the day.

Alex Stulce led the Seasiders in the first round, tying for 10th place with Brandon Lee of Sonoma State and Matt Shuman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Stulce shot a 3-over 75.

Jacob Godfrey was tied for 13th after the first 18 with a 4-over 76, along with Western Washington's Cody Roth and Holy Names' Kyle McClay and Matt Thomas.

Godfrey was leading for the Seasiders after the second round as he tied for 14th overall with a 78 and a combined total of 10 over.

Inoka Kahawaii shot 76 in the second round to finish tied for 20th overall. He finished the day with a combined at 12 over par.

BYU-Hawaii will finish the tournament Tuesday at the Wente Golf Course.
