LAIE, Hawaii – Tanner Nelson earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors on Thursday, marking the second-consecutive year with a BYU-Hawaii men's basketball players receiving the honor.
Nelson was named to the NCAA Division II District 8 team along with three other conference selections. He maintains a 3.89 GPA studying Business Management while leading the Seasiders in points this season.
Nelson is ranked fourth in the PacWest in scoring per game with an average of 18.3 points. Nelson recorded a career high in points with 35 against Alaska Fairbanks in November and recently scored 31 against Hawaii Pacific. He has started all 21 of BYU-Hawaii's games this season and started 23 of 27 in his freshman season. As a sophomore, this was the first year Nelson was eligible for this award.
Ian Harward was the last Seasider to receive the all-district honor on his way to being named to the CoSIDA All-America Third Team.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
