HONOLULU – BYU-Hawaii men's basketball fell 115-86 to Chaminade on Saturday night in the McCabe Gymnasium.
Justin Park recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Scott Friel led the Seasiders (13-10, 10-8 PacWest) in points with 19. Cory Lange and Ian Harward added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Kuany Kuany led the Silverswords (11-14, 9-9 PacWest) to victory with 24 points and eight assists.
BYU-Hawaii connected on 44.8 percent of its shots from the field, while Chaminade shot 57.1 percent.
The Silverswords took control of the game early with a 7-point run featuring a 3-pointer by Kiran Shastri to give them a 14-7 edge with 16:19 in the first half. Chaminade pulled further ahead on a 10-0 streak, widening the gap to 24-8 with five minutes later.
Consecutive 3-pointers from Shastri and Kuany continued Chaminade's offensive attack and brought the score to 32-11 with 9:02 remaining in the period. Friel hit a shot behind the arc to help the Seasiders respond with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 34-20 with six minutes left in the half.
Several fouls helped BYU-Hawaii go on a 9-3 run to close the gap to 41-31 with 3:30 left. The teams traded points with Chaminade able to build on its lead slowly to 56-39 heading into the locker room.
Two 3-pointers from Rohndell Goodwin helped Chaminade start the second half with eight unanswered and extend the lead to 64-39 with 18:18 remaining. Harward and Lange went on a 10-2 run for the Seasiders to cut the lead back to 17 two minutes later.
BYU-Hawaii used a 6-0 run to tighten Chaminade's lead to 74-61 game with 13:22 to go. It was the closest the Seasiders would get with the Silverswords pushing their lead to as high as 33 on the way to the victory.
BYU-Hawaii will face Azusa Pacific on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. HST in its final home game at the Cannon Activities Center. The game will be broadcast live by BYUtv and live stats and audio will be available online.
