IRVINE, Calif. – This week's PacWest Men's Basketball Players of the Week are Scott Friel (BYU-Hawaii), Jordan Giusti (California Baptist) and Tanner Nelson (BYU-Hawaii). The awards are based on games played Dec. 14-20.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Scott Friel (BYU-Hawaii)
G, Sr., Riverton, Utah/Southern Utah
Friel turned in one of the best games in the conference this season, recording 35 points and 15 rebounds against Chaminade. He shot 13-20 from the field and made seven free throws to score the most points by a PacWest player this year. He has earned two of the three 30-point efforts in the conference this season. In the last four games, Friel is averaging 16.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Giusti (CBU)
G, Sr., Danville, Calif./Saint Mary's
Giusti earned his second weekly honor after averaging 3.5 steals per game in two wins by the 18th-ranked Lancers. He also averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 assists per game. He had four steals against Bethesda and three steals against Point Loma, as the Lancers for 38 turnovers and score 58 points off turnovers combined in the two games. Giusti leads the PacWest in steals per game (2.7 spg) and is second in the NCAA in total steals (35).
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tanner Nelson (BYU-Hawaii)
G, Fr., Vancouver, Wash./Union
Nelson had the best week of his young career as a Seasider, scoring a career-best 17 points in each game. He shot 57.9 percent from the field (11-19) and made four free throws in each game. He made three three-pointers and had four assists and two steals against Hawai'i Pacific. He had seven rebounds, four assists and a steal against Chaminade.
