LAIE, Hawaii – Ian Harward's double-double led BYU-Hawaii men's basketball to a 100-84 victory over Fresno Pacific on Tuesday in the Cannon Activities Center.
Harward finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds with several points coming from tip-ins on seven offensive boards. Daniel Berger led the Seasiders with a total of 17 points. Following close behind was Pablo Coro who had a total of 15 points. Tyler Tuliau and Jordan Stone rounded out BYU-Hawaii players with double figures, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively.
As a team, BYU-Hawaii (10-1, 4-1 PacWest) outrebounded the Sunbirds (5-7,1-4 PacWest) by 13 and finished with two more assists. The Seasiders are undefeated when leading the opposition in these two categories this season.
The Seasiders started off with a 6-0 run that featured shots made by Stone, Scott Friel, and Robbie Mitchell. Mitchell's free throws put BYU-Hawaii in a double-digit lead, which left the score at 18-8, only seven minutes into the first half. They never looked back holding the lead throughout the game.
Fresno's attempted to catch the Seasiders with four-consecutive free-throws by Madison Higgins to cut the lead to 15 points with two minutes remaining in the half.
Harward and BYU-Hawaii answered with five points from Harward to extend the lead to 56-37 heading into the locker room.
The Seasiders picked up where they left off in the second half with a jump shot made by Stone. Berger through down an alley-oop dunk from Robbie Mitchell to give BYU-Hawaii in their largest lead of the game of 26 points at 76-50.
Seasiders broke into the triple digits on an old-fashioned 3-point play by Luke Aston, as BYU-Hawaii coasted the final two minutes to the 100-84 victory.
The Seasiders will return to action against their rivals, Dixie State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. HST in the Cannon Activities Center. Live stats and video will be available online.
