NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (Jan. 27, 2014) - The double-double machine, Scott Friel, was named the Hawaii Tourism Authority PacWest Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The award was selected for games played Jan. 20-26.
Pablo Coro was also selected as a Final 5 honoree after he averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 assists per game for the Seasiders.
Friel, a 6-5, 230-pound sophomore out of Riverton, Utah, averaged a double-double of 20.3 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in three road contests for the Seasiders. He has five double-doubles this season.
He recorded two double-doubles on the week with 20 points and 13 boards at Holy Names, and 23 points and 15 boards at Academy of Art. The only game of the week he didn't post a double-double was at Notre Dame de Namur, when he went for 18 points and nine rebounds.
Friel was also big at the free throw line and made 25 of his 32 free throws on the week, with 15 coming in the overtime win over the Urban Knights. He ranks sixth in the PacWest with 52 free throws in conference games.
On the season, Friel is leads the Seasiders in both scoring (12.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.1 rebounds per game) and is shooting 55.6 percent from the field.
Coro, compiled an 85.7 free throw percentage, making 18 of his 21 shots from the line. His biggest free throws came against Academy of Art, when he made 15 free throws, including eight in overtime, to seal the win for BYU-Hawaii. He scored a game-high 26 points in the win.
