Role of the team

Role of the team

The major role of the BYU-Hawaii dance and cheer team is to promote Seasider athletic events and build community and school participation by entertaining, promoting, and giving a positive representation of BYU-Hawaii. The team utilizes a unique combination of sidelines and halftime entertainment, public relations campaigning, and a variety of participation in cheers, dance styles, and special appearances to support its mission.

They combine various dance styles and techniques to deliver fun entertainment that honors BYU-Hawaii, the athletic department, the students, the community, and their teammates. They practice six hours per week on a regular basis and more during choreography boot camps that are full Saturday sessions.

The expectations for dancers/cheerers are very high and the commitment of each member is what makes this a great team. The concept for this team came from several discussions with the coaches, students, and other members of the athletic program to come up with a unique entertainment style.

The coach works with the variety of talent on the team to create unique halftime shows and sideline entertainment. The team performs at halftime for all home games and perform during sideline timeouts in concert with the playing of the BYU-Hawaii pep band. Their goal is to deliver sophistication and fun to the BYU-Hawaii atmosphere.
